Built in 1899 and used as a summer home until 1946, the Stacy House has gone by many names. George Stacy, a prominent local hotelier and businessman, envisioned a high style colonial revival perched on the edge of the ocean as a wedding gift to his new bride, Jane Parker. The intricate detail, the bright white color and tiered appearance earned the first nickname, “the Wedding Cake House”.
Every room has a sweeping view across the lawn, road, and over the granite ledge and boulder strewn seashore, out to sea. Originally this area was called Bass Rocks for the unique, low pitched rumbling of the surf on the shore. The ocean stretches out to infinity but hosts gulls, boats, the occasional seal, whales and, of course, fish.
Look out across the lawn to a sweeping view of Bass Rocks, Good Harbor Beach, Land’s End, Rockport, the Twin Lights of Thacher’s Island and the Atlantic Ocean. The two corner rooms of the Seaside House enjoy both views to give you the feel of being in your own private lighthouse.
